The classification descends by levels, and each level adds a piece to the code: section (the letter C, manufacturing), division (10, food), group (107), class (1071, bakery) and, in the national adaptation, up to six digits of activity. It is declarative: it describes the activity the company registered, not necessarily everything it does.
