Methodology
1. What is published
This directory gathers public corporate and registry information on the companies incorporated in Ecuador: RUC, legal name, legal status, company type, incorporation date, corporate domicile, subscribed capital and economic activity.
The data comes from official public registries of the Ecuadorian State and is reproduced without alteration: this site does not modify the information; it organizes it and makes it findable. The economic activity classification follows ISIC revision 4 (the United Nations nomenclature, locally called CIIU, adapted as the national classification by the INEC, the statistics institute). On this English version, activity names down to the 4-digit class use the official United Nations English wording; the deeper national codes (such as G4630.33) have no official English version, so their names are this site's own translation of the official Spanish denomination, which remains the authoritative text. The RUC identifying each company has thirteen digits: the first two record the province where it registered and the last three are always 001, for every taxpayer (RUC Law regulations, art. 3).
To the registry data are added the financials: indicators taken from the financial statements companies file yearly with the Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros. The Ley de Compañías (art. 20) requires filing within the first four months after the fiscal close, and those statements are prepared under IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), mandatory in the country by Resolution 08.G.DSC.010 of 2008, phased in between 2010 and 2012.
2. Update frequency
The directory is rebuilt in full and regularly, from the cutoffs the source publishes: new companies, legal status changes and updates of domicile or capital appear on the site at the next rebuild. No fixed cadence is promised; the data's currency is that of the most recently processed cutoff.
Financial indicators follow another calendar: since a fiscal year's statements are filed through April of the following year, each year's figures fill in toward May. Recent years' figures may still grow as late or corrected filings arrive.
Territorial figures are assigned by the currently registered domicile, not by the province encoded in the RUC, which corresponds to the original registration and does not change if the company moves. Each company counts in full in its head office's province, even if it operates in several; if it changes domicile, its entire historical series moves to the new province.
3. Inclusion criteria
- Companies with a registered RUC are published. A small share of records lacks one, mostly old, already dissolved companies, and stays out, since without a RUC there is no reliable way to identify them.
- When a company stops appearing in the registry, its profile is not deleted: it is kept with the last known data and a visible notice with the date it stopped appearing.
- The directory's subject is the company as a legal person, and its profiles cover the registry, corporate and financial fields listed in section 1.
- The atypical statistical patterns summarized on the home page (the registry's "oddities") are published only as aggregate counts: no company is identified for exhibiting one, since an atypical pattern can have a fully legitimate explanation.
- Employment and wage figures come from the INEC's business statistical register and are shown only as proportions and averages, never as microdata.
- The information is corporate, registry and financial, from public sources. It does not constitute a credit, financial or commercial assessment of any company.
4. Content contributed by companies
Alongside the registry information, the site may publish content contributed voluntarily by the company itself under the services described in the legal notice: a logo, expanded information or other presentation elements. Such content is published identified as such and clearly separated from the information sourced from public registries, which is never altered or conditioned.
5. Financial statements that do not add up
Financial statement figures are reproduced as they stand in the forms filed with the Superintendencia de Compañías, without recomputation. Some fiscal years arrive with accounts that do not square with one another: the most frequent case is a company declaring the bulk of its billing under other income (account 403) rather than ordinary revenue (account 401), so the cost of sales comes to exceed the declared revenue and the form's own gross profit turns negative. By our own count over the filed statements, in fiscal year 2025 it happens in about 1,400 of the 147,500 companies that filed.
When that happens, the profile shows the declared figures and stops computing what would depend on them: it publishes no margin, no year-over-year change and no position against the rest, because any of those percentages would look credible and be false. The profile says so explicitly. Aggregates by sector and province use medians precisely so that a few such years do not displace the whole's figure.
6. The other data sections
Besides the company directory, the site publishes aggregate analyses of three other families of public information, each with its own source and rhythm. Every page carries at its foot a "How to read these figures" note detailing what was processed and what was left out; here is a summary of where each one comes from.
- Tax debt and collection. They come from the information published by the Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI): the debtor lists the administration releases under article 99 of the Código Tributario (enforceable debt, disputed debts and payment plans) and its collection statistics by tax, month, province and canton. Debt is published only as aggregate totals, never as an identified taxpayer's situation, and each list carries the cutoff date the source itself declares.
- The securities market. It comes from the public securities market registry of the Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros: the balance sheets filed by trusts, investment funds, brokerage houses, managers and issuers. Issuers report yearly and semiannually; the rest, monthly.
- The financial system. It is built on the financial bulletins published by the Superintendencia de Bancos and the Superintendencia de Economía Popular y Solidaria (SEPS): balance sheet and official indicators of every bank, cooperative and mutual. The cutoff is monthly, except for cooperatives in segments 4 and 5, which report quarterly; every profile and table declares the cutoff it uses.
Across all these sections the same principle as the directory applies: figures are reproduced as they stand in the official source, without recomputation, and the site limits itself to organizing and explaining them.
7. Errors and discrepancies
This site reproduces what stands in the registry: if a data point is wrong at the origin, it will appear here the same way, and its substantive correction is handled before the corresponding supervisory body. If what you notice is a discrepancy between what this site publishes and what stands in the official source, that is, a reproduction error attributable to the site itself, it can be flagged through the data correction channel.
